Loosing Stride.

Dear Friends,

I feel that I need to share a confession with you all... I am loosing steam and loosing it quickly. It is so frustrating. I am at this point where I should be kicking into high gear, but I find myself finding great reasons to not get to the gym and I am finding all sorts of ways to keep myself busy.

Lately things have been either rather stressful, so what a better reason than to increase the food intake although I am trying to make it good choices, I have been trying really hard to stop.

So I am writing to my friends.. looking for suggestions on how to kick start again. How to let exercise become a true part of my life instead of something I just do. How do you flip the switch in the mind? How do I make this a lifetime thing?

Please friends...help me out.

  1. I share in your grief, Binga. I have lost a good amount of weight this month, but haven't been working out or eating right at all this week- and that could put me right back where I don't want to be. Keep smiling! God, you, and all of us who love ya will get this train back on track!

Now for some of that asked-for help:
According to Stephen R. Covey (author of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People), habits are formed over a three-week time period of repeating an action. It stands to reason that, for most things, three solid weeks without deviating from the course at all will establish a life-pattern. For me, that has involved tracking my calories at livestrong.com and changing into workout clothes when I come home from work- they're lighter, which makes me cold, which makes me WANT to work out! Dunno what I'll do when it gets hot out, but it's a start.

Keep the faith, stay the course, be positive! We're with you! (By the way, your blog is one thing that inspired me to drop 30 extra pounds. Thanks to you, I'm halfway there! Your public efforts are an example to a lot of us, friend Sarah.)

  2. Something I just thought to share with you is that this is pretty normal. It's normal to loss motivation and slack off the gym. I have been going to the gym for a year and a half now and I cannot say I have done it without having a couple of weeks or even months of slacking. And suprisingly enough people that I have meet that have been working out all their lives, compete in triathalons, etc. go through the same exact phases. The point I'm making is don't look at what you have not done... "Just Do It" like Nike says... just go back and forget about how many times you have not been lately... forget about all the bad things you ate and JUST DO IT!!

Another helpful hint is finding someone that has similar goals as you in exercising and weight loss. I've found that talking to someone that also works out keeps me motivated.. it actually boosts my motivation and pushes me to try new things at the gym. Plus you can check in with each other and make a pact to keep an eye on each other. I think this is really important and could help out a lot :))

Your awesome Sarah and don't you ever forget it!!!! You can do it!!
